Recover documents that won't open

A PDF can get damaged by an interrupted download, a badly forwarded email or a faulty disk. First we try to rebuild the document's structure, keeping the text.

If that's not possible, we read page by page and rescue every page that can be displayed as an image. We'll tell you how many were recovered.

How to repair a PDF, step by step

  1. 1

    Select the damaged PDF.

  2. 2

    Press Repair.

  3. 3

Download the recovered PDF and check the result message.

Frequently asked questions

Can every PDF be repaired?

No. If the file is badly damaged or incomplete, no pages may be recoverable.

Does it work with password-protected PDFs?

Remove the password first with the Remove PDF Password tool.

Why isn't the text selectable in the result?

When the structure can't be rebuilt, pages are rescued as images.
