Protect your privacy before sharing a PDF

Many PDFs store information you can't see: the user name of the computer that created it, the software used and the creation and edit dates. When you share the document, that information travels with it.

This tool removes that data, following good data protection practice (GDPR and similar). It doesn't change the visible text on the pages.

How to remove PDF metadata, step by step

  1. 1

    Select the PDF.

  2. 2

Choose which metadata to remove (all by default).

  3. 3

    Download the clean PDF.

Frequently asked questions

How can I see my PDF's metadata?

In Adobe Reader: File > Properties. Chrome doesn't show it, but it's still inside the file.

Does it also remove comments or visible data?

No. To cover visible data such as IDs or signatures, use Redact PDF or the Personal Data Detector.

Can I add new metadata?

Yes, with the Edit Metadata tool.
